Snowmobile Insurance

Snowmobiles spend most of the year parked and most of their risk concentrated into a few months. A policy should reflect both.

  • Trail liability where clubs and state land require it
  • Theft coverage that continues through the off-season
  • Transport and trailer damage included

Snowmobile Insurance questions

Do I need coverage if I only ride on my own land?

Liability requirements generally attach to public trails and state land. Even on private land, theft and fire coverage for the machine itself is usually worth having.

Should I keep the policy through summer?

Yes for comprehensive. Most snowmobile thefts happen out of season, from garages and storage units.

Are modified sleds covered?

Aftermarket parts need to be declared and scheduled. An undeclared performance modification can create a coverage argument at claim time.

Does my homeowners policy cover it?

Typically only while on your own premises, and with little or no liability once it leaves.
