What a windshield repair plan policy actually does

Chip repair
Resin repair of small chips and star breaks before they spread. Done early, this is quick and preserves the original factory seal.

Crack repair
Repair of cracks within the plan's size limit, usually a few inches. Beyond that, the glass needs replacing.

Mobile service
Technicians who come to you, since a windshield chip rarely justifies a trip to a shop.

Multiple repairs
Plans generally allow several repairs per year rather than one.

Full windshield replacement
Replacement is a comprehensive claim, not a repair plan benefit. Cracks past the size limit need replacing.

Damage outside the windshield
Side and rear glass are not covered by a windshield plan.

Damage that pre-dates the plan
Existing chips at enrollment are excluded, as with any coverage.
Windshield Repair Plan questions
Why not just claim it on comprehensive?
You can, and in some states glass claims do not affect rates. In others, claim frequency can matter at renewal, and if your comprehensive deductible exceeds the repair cost, a claim pays nothing anyway.
Can any chip be repaired?
Most small ones, if they are away from the driver's direct line of sight and the inner layer is intact. Repairing early is what keeps it repairable.
Does repair restore full strength?
A proper resin repair restores most of the structural integrity and stops the crack spreading. It usually leaves a faint mark.
What about ADAS cameras?
Repair does not disturb them. Replacement often requires recalibration, which is a cost worth knowing about in advance.
This is not an insurance policy
A windshield repair plan is a service plan, not insurance. It provides the repair services described in the plan documents, does not pay claims, and does not cover windshield replacement.
